Over the past two decades, Prof. Rem Tai has been engaged in business work between the Chinese mainland and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries, with long-term residency in both the mainland and BRI countries. He currently serves as Chairman of a multinational group. His previous positions include Executive Director of the Board of Directors of a listed company, Member of the Logistics and Service Industry Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong E-Commerce and Logistics Association, External Logistics Expert of Guangzhou Industry and Trade Technician College, Executive Committee Member of the Alumni Inheritance Fund of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Member of the Advisory Committee of the School of Business at Hong Kong Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, and School Governor of several educational institutions.
In 2014, Prof. Tai founded the Silk Road Development Association (the first local professional organization focusing on the BRI in Hong Kong) and has served as its Founding Chairman ever since. The members and advisors he invited to the association include National People's Congress Deputies, National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Members, former government officials, Executive Council Members, Justices of the Peace, Directors of listed companies, Chamber of Commerce Presidents, professionals from multiple countries, and winners of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" and "Young Leaders" awards. As one of the core pioneers promoting the BRI in Hong Kong, he has organized or co-organized over 80 BRI-related events, including a BRI Entrepreneurs Forum with nearly 500 participants, and study tours to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Qianhai Free Trade Zone.
Prof. Tai has delivered over 30 keynote speeches on the BRI at forums hosted by institutions such as the Eurasian Economic Forum, Xinhua News Agency Asia-Pacific Branch, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Guangdong Chamber of Commerce, and the Communist Youth League of Guangdong Province. He has also shared BRI-related information with mainland municipal government officials, listed companies, and investment bank organizations. In 2016, he signed memorandums of cooperation with Huang Yi, then Vice Mayor of Qinzhou, and Dato’ Lin Hengyi of Malaysia, acting as the official promotion partner of Qinzhou in Hong Kong. In the same year, he co-authored the book Stepping Onto the Era’s Giant Wheel of the Belt and Road Initiative with six other authors and served as its Chief Editor. The book was distributed in bookstores across Hong Kong and Macao and is available for loan at Hong Kong Public Libraries. He has also published more than a dozen BRI-related articles in media outlets such as Hong Kong Commercial Daily, Wen Wei Po, Bauhinia Forum, and Metro Daily, and shared BRI insights on programs of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and Metro Radio. Prof. Tai is a Visiting Professor at the Marshal Suryadarma Aerospace University in Indonesia. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, and works as a columnist for several newspapers. Over the past five years, he has also served as a lecturer for courses organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the auspices of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, training Hong Kong primary and secondary school teachers on topics such as the BRI, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, and the 14th Five-Year Plan.
Since 2017, Prof. Tai has produced microfilms focusing on the BRI and the Greater Bay Area, including Wish You a Pleasant Journey, With You All the Way, Heading North and South, and Flying Over the Vast Sky of the Greater Bay Area, serving as their producer. He also wrote the lyrics for the theme song Wish You a Pleasant Journey. These microfilms and their theme song videos have been viewed over 100,000 times, with public screenings held in 2018, 2022, and 2023 respectively. In 2019, he hosted the "Belt and Road Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Cooperation Promotion Forum", which was supported by Li Jing, Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, who attended as the officiating guest. In the same year, he organized the "Canton Fair Africa Forum" at the Dongfang Hotel in Guangzhou and signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Director of the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission. In 2020, the "Belt and Road Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Cooperation Promotion Forum" was co-hosted with the Shenzhen Finance Institute, receiving extensive support.
As one of Hong Kong’s representatives in the field of BRI development, Prof. Tai was awarded the 10th Young Leader Award in 2016 in recognition of his social services related to the BRI.
